Please use the community lounge which is filled with EN's thoughts and feelings. ■Rooms This is a large mixed dormitory room. The bunk bed made of Shimanto cypress is equipped with functions such as a valuables box with a key, a reading light, an electrical outlet, and a private curtain. A private lounge is available for the exclusive use of guests staying in this room. Please use it as a place for rest and socializing. Five years ago, just beginning my multi-point life, I visited Kochi as part of my Shikoku tour. The place I stayed at was "EN HOSTEL," located in the city center. At that time, I wasn’t as experienced in traveling as I am now, so having a reliable base to stay made a huge difference, and it remains one of the accommodations that I vividly remember. In this article, I will introduce a day spent at EN HOSTEL while tracing back those memories. EN HOSTEL is a guesthouse attractively located in the heart of Kochi City, yet it offers a calming atmosphere. With a modern and natural interior, combined with the staff's attentive service, I felt perfectly at ease even in an unfamiliar place. Stylish yet unpretentious, it had a comfortable ambiance that made me think, "I want to come back." Perhaps it was having such a "welcoming base" that allowed me to continue my multi-point life while venturing into unfamiliar places. It is a memorable spot I would love to casually revisit.

This trip to Kochi was a solo journey around the 88 temples of Shikoku, so I chose a cost-effective place. I had the dormitory room all to myself on the night I stayed. It was a very cold day and I had both air conditioners in the room running on full blast, yet the room hardly warmed up. When I needed to go to the toilet (located on the accommodation floor), the shower room, or the kitchen, I had to go outside and climb up and down the stairs, which was also very cold at that time. It might be better to visit in a season other than winter, haha. The room had a refrigerator, and there was a table and chairs, so I could eat and drink in the room. Overall, the cleanliness was impressive and very well-maintained.

Actually, I liked this hotel so much that I had previously made a reservation on another site before staying at Hafh. It’s more of a dormitory than a hotel, and its greatest charm is its cost performance. My personal space is just the size of one bed, which is honestly quite narrow, but it’s fine if all I need is a place to sleep. The rooms, beds, and shared spaces are new, clean, and give a well-kept impression. There are shared lounges on the first and second floors where you can do computer work and have breakfast for 500 yen, which is convenient. Given the price, the accommodation experience may not be that great, but the comfort relative to the price is its greatest charm.

Check-in and check-out were very smooth, and the sleeping space was clean. The shared spaces were also spacious and comfortable. Especially the shower booth and washroom were very tidy, and I appreciated that the foot mats were exchanged regularly. Since there were no other people during the weekday, I worked at my mini desk and chair in the dormitory as if it was private.

This time, I came to EN HOSTEL&BAR, a large-scale hostel in Kochi Prefecture with HafH. The hostel opened in July 2018 and is a 10-minute walk from JR Kochi Station and the bus terminal. Access to major areas is also convenient. Tourist spots like Sunday Market and Kochi Castle are within walking distance. The shared space has a large community lounge on the first floor, and there is free Wi-Fi available, making it convenient for remote work and digital nomads. The room is a dormitory, so it is indeed small, but it is said to be made from Kochi prefecture's Shimanto cypress, which gives it a warm wooden feeling. By the way, if there are other guests around, you'll need to be mindful of others. It may not be suitable for those who are not comfortable with that kind of dormitory. The laundry is set outside, and there is a vending machine available. The shared shower space is new, clean, and does not have a shabby feeling at all. There is also a breakfast menu, so you can relax in the lounge in the morning. Hostels and guesthouses use fewer HafH coins, making it perfect for those who want to travel cheaply or stay for a long time. EN HOSTEL&BAR is a large hostel where you can have a comfortable stay, so please try to stay there once.
