THE RYOKAN TOKYO YUGAWARA doesn't have luxurious rooms or state-of-the-art amenities. However, there are just enough rooms and baths for you and your really close friends, family, and loved ones to spend time together. ● Taxi Please tell us where you are going, "The Ryokan Tokyo". The ride takes about 10 minutes (1500 yen). ● Bus + Walk * It is quite a steep slope to the hotel. If you have large luggage, it is recommended to take a taxi * Hakone Tozan Bus bound for Okuyugawara or Fudo Waterfall 10 minutes on the bus ride and about a 15-minute walk from the "Park Entrance" bus stop (1) Get on at the bus stop No. 2 in front of Yugawara Station 　　(There is a bus that leaves at a pace of about one every 10 minutes.) (2) Get off at the 11th stop (about 10 minutes on board) at the park entrance. (3) After getting off the bus, go in the direction of travel for about 70 meters and go up the steep slope to Kameya Ryokan on the right hand side (4) When you come to a hill with a good view, turn right and go up the hill (5) At the end of the road, turn left along the road and go a little further, and you will see the sign of The Ryokan Tokyo on your left. ● Car About 10 minutes from Yugawara Station. (1) Go straight on the main street in front of the station while looking at Yugawara Station on your right. (2) After about 5 minutes, turn right at the intersection in front of "Gosho Shrine" and go up the hill (3) Follow the road for 2.8 km straight ahead (Orange Line) (4) Before the second tunnel, turn left at the sign of "Wakakusa Mountain Complex" on the left. (5) Go down along the road, turn right at the end, turn right at the end, and go down the slope (6) After descending 200m, you will see a sign on the right hand side that says "The Ryokan Tokyo" ●Parking Parking is free of charge, but the number is limited. The Perfect Place to Relax in an Area Visited by Literary Masters

In a word, I truly had a CHILL time. This was my first trip to Yugawara Onsen with my mother, just the two of us. I noticed male groups taking day trips, but we stayed overnight. From check-in to check-out, I appreciated the semi-self service approach, which allowed me to avoid interacting with others, making it perfect for those who want to spend time quietly and leisurely. Conversely, if you're expecting full service, you might feel a bit unsatisfied. Personally, I found the concept interesting and refreshing. The room had several yogibo, and I enjoyed the fact that I could use the bath from 16:00 to 8:00 anytime I wanted. There are no strict bathroom rules in the room, but the sink and toilet are separate, and the sink has a full set of amenities, so you can comfortably spend time without needing to bring anything. The location is about 10 minutes by public bus, and less than a 10-minute walk after getting off. If you have large luggage or lack confidence in going up steep slopes, I think it's better to request a shuttle. It was a good workout going up the steep slope, which I had never experienced before, but the round trip was tough. If you're without a car, you'll need to arrange meals at the inn or secure them in advance before your visit. One point in the directions to the facility mentions, "After getting off the bus, proceed about 70m in the direction you were headed and ascend the steep slope on the right to Kameya Ryokan," but I couldn't find Kameya Ryokan... Be careful as it's a different facility name. In the lounge, snacks (chocolate and dried fruits) and tea or coffee are provided for free, available at your leisure. I noticed there were a lot of mangas, but there were also magazines, paperbacks, and hardcover books, as well as board games for rent. There was a rich variety of yukata available. Before the bath, there were shelves for face towels and bath towels, so you could use a new one, but sometimes the supply was a bit low. I ordered two meals, dinner and breakfast, and they were both excellent. The menu featured local ingredients, and the portion sizes were just perfect! The bath was hot on the day of stay but a bit lukewarm the next morning, and the shower temperature was also lukewarm at night. There is no outdoor bath, and there's no gender-swapping system. Since it's a bit away from the station and downtown, I think it's perfect for those who want to spend time quietly. It's also great for a debut solo trip. Close to Tokyo, this inn is perfect for those who want to take a quick dip in the hot springs and enjoy a delicious meal to recharge their spirits, even without a car.

Perfect for Family Time or Solo Retreats

I used the facility with my parents, and most of the other guests were solo travelers, couples, or groups of friends. The room was spacious with several yogibos available, and the onsen was open for use from 16:00 to 8:00, allowing us to relax comfortably. The lounge had free snacks (chocolate and dried fruits) along with tea and coffee, and you could borrow various types of yukatas, board games, Uno, Hanafuda, as well as a mouse and keyboard for free. (The presence of the board game 'Karesansui' was a personal favorite!) Before you go to the onsen, there is a shelf with face towels and bath towels for easy replacement, which was nice. I included two meals (dinner and breakfast), both of which featured local ingredients that were satisfying both in taste and portion size. Since they seem to be running with a minimal number of staff, there were some minor inconveniences like the lounge free drink cups running out and a lack of replacement towels at night, and the morning baths were a bit cold. However, it's located a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the town, making it a perfect recommendation for anyone wanting some quiet personal time or needing focused work with good Wi-Fi. As convenience stores are a bit far away, it would be best for those wanting to retreat to bring supplies before arriving.

Normally, I would stay at a ryokan along the busier road in Yugawara, but this time I stayed at a ryokan on a high ground for the first time. Recently, as the world has become more lively, I often return from solo trips feeling like I couldn't relax, but this place was truly chill! Being on high ground, it was quiet, and I loved the renovation feel of the room, plus the Yogibo was fully relaxing. There was a free drink area prepared with various tea leaves, coffee, chocolate, and nuts. Many guests were quietly reading books or spending time in peace. The large public bath was Yugawara Onsen ♨️. As expected of Yugawara's hot springs, I soaked in the lukewarm water and felt warm until morning! The dinner and breakfast that were additionally included were delicious! The freshness of the seafood for the hand-rolled sushi was excellent, the seasoning of the obanzai was just right, and the stock for the rice porridge was perfect for my taste! I was tired from my daily life when I visited, but I thought about going further away, and I'm glad I came here instead. Because it was close, I could relax without feeling tense. I have added more ryokans I want to visit in the future. Thank you very much! 😊

The inn was very quiet and had a space for reading books. On that day, there was a malfunction with the facilities, but I was taken to another nearby hot spring, which was also very nice.

Since all registered accommodations in Hakone were fully booked during the peak of Obon, I dropped down to Yugawara. The highlights were the hand-rolled sushi at night, the dried horse mackerel in the morning, refreshments from water to coffee, tea, and even shaved ice, all available 24 hours. The renovation of old guest rooms showed some limits in cleanliness, compensated with Yogibo furniture. No issues for just sleeping. On the other hand, the shared spaces were a successful renovation, spacious with plenty of seating, and worked like a co-working space where guests were using the area for work and writing in various ways.

The Ryokan Tokyo YUGAWARA featured a location surrounded by hot springs and nature. The building was impressive, resembling a blend of old and new, as if an old inn had been renovated. The room was spacious, with a YogiBo as shown in the photos, allowing for relaxation. I forgot to reserve dinner, but I was able to order from a limited menu at check-in, enjoying a set meal and craft beer. There was nothing around, so if it weren’t for that set meal, it would have been a struggle to find dinner.

Family Trip for 2 Adults and 2 Elementary School Children: Our First HafH Trip!

Both my husband and I registered on HafH and searched for a place in the Kanto area where all four of us could stay. This place came up in our search. When we inquired, we learned that there would be no extra charge for our two elementary school children to stay with us if we opted for room only. So we decided on this place. (Booking divided between two adults) The guest room had a modern Japanese style and was filled with many Yogibo, where the kids happily burrowed in. The children's yukata had cute patterns, and it was great that they could choose their own obi and take them to the room. The drink bar featured interesting books lined up, which looked like a nice way to relax while reading. The onsen was small but clean, making our stay very comfortable.
