Experience of the stay
Experiences during the trip
We will introduce the sightseeing and gourmet spots around Hotel Indigo Taipei North where we actually visited!
【CHUN PLACE Dazhi】
For dinner, we decided to take out because we were tired.
The hotel is directly connected to CHUN PLACE Dazhi, where restaurants and food courts are gathered, and can be accessed from the hotel lobby.
The first floor has various tenants such as burgers, salads, cakes, juices, cafes, sake, sushi, wine, ramen, etc., making it a very convenient spot for travelers to eat in or take out.
We bought a large poke (about 1,600 yen) at a poke specialty store called POKE LEE.
It was very delicious, but be careful as the signature spicy mayo sauce is abundant and spicy!
【Miramar Entertainment Park】
A shopping mall called Miramar Entertainment Park, which can be reached in a 3-minute walk from the hotel.
It is a huge mall with a Ferris wheel as a landmark and also has IMAX and other movie theaters.
The first floor's Douhua stand has a variety of recommendations on the menu.
The taste of the beans was rich and delicious.
There is a stylish supermarket "Mia C'bon" from Singapore in the basement, where we bought beer, tofu, and other souvenirs.
There is also a large food court here, which is convenient.
【National Palace Museum】
The National Palace Museum is a representative tourist spot in Taiwan, being one of the four major art museums in the world.
We went there after having breakfast (after 9 o'clock)!
It took about 10 minutes by taxi from the hotel and cost around 600 yen, so we recommend taking a taxi for transportation.
(I used a taxi about five times in Taiwan, but had no troubles at all, and all the drivers were friendly.)
The National Palace Museum is surrounded by mountains and feels nice; I thought it must be a very good feng shui location.
We left our suitcase at the hotel, but there are also plenty of lockers available, so you might be able to carry it with you.
The famous jadeite cabbage at the National Palace Museum is larger than I expected, measuring about 19 cm.
I also learned for the first time that there is a grasshopper along with the cabbage!
The famous stone of braised pork was on loan to another museum, so we couldn't see it.
As with the cabbage, it seems that loaning the exhibits is common, so for those who really want to see the cabbage or braised pork, it's a good idea to check the official page in advance.
We quickly walked around for about an hour and 40 minutes exploring huge corals, Chinese dynasty interiors, pottery, Buddha statues, and calligraphy, and it was fun!
Make sure not to skip the largest museum shop located in the basement of the National Palace Museum.
【National Palace Museum Cafe】
I was tired from walking around the vast National Palace Museum, so I took a break at the café on the first floor.
The seating was spacious and the prices were reasonable, so I recommend it; there was also a food menu. The pomelo tea was delicious and similar to Korean yuzu tea!
【Xinbeitou Hot Springs】
After visiting the National Palace Museum, we took a taxi to Shilin Station and then the MRT to Xinbeitou Hot Springs.
The obanyaki we had in front of Shilin Station was very delicious.
Xinbeitou Hot Springs is a famous hot spring area that can be reached from Taipei in about 30 minutes by MRT!
As soon as you exit the station, there is Beitou Park, where you can stroll while watching the hot springs flowing in the river.
We went to the Japanese-style hot spring "Takino Yu" without needing swimsuits.
After paying at the reception, we entered through separate entrances for men and women, just like in Japan!
There are lockers with keys that are old but reassuring.
This is actually the most historic hot spring in Beitou, where Emperor Showa also visited.
It is also a historically and scientifically rare hot spring with strong acidic blue sulfur springs that can only be found in two places in the world, including here and Tamagawa Onsen in Akita Prefecture, Japan.
The women's bath was crowded, and I felt the gaze of regular locals a little... right after entering, I was in the bath, and in the back there were wash areas and chairs lined up along the wall for resting.
There were locals who spoke to me in Japanese, and having a simple chat in halting Japanese was a good memory.
It was fun to laugh quietly with a tourist from Germany about how hot the water was!
In the men's bath, people of various nationalities enjoyed the hot springs quietly, which was a rare experience.
The water had a strong acidity that felt invigorating to the skin.
In the courtyard, there is a foot bath and shops that are open only on Wednesdays, Fridays, and weekends, where you can enjoy drinks and sweets after the hot spring.
After the hot springs, we returned to the hotel via MRT!
