HafH’s 3rd directly owned and run facility, HafH Goto The Pier, is being constructed inside SERENDIP HOTEL GOTO in Goto City. The Pier will be HafH’s 3rd directly run facility in Nagasaki Prefecture and the first in the prefecture to be outside of Nagasaki City.

As the Goto Islands are renowned for their gorgeous beaches, the concept for the design of our latest facility is “A ‘Pier’, born from the awe-inspiring seas of the Goto archipelago, where those living a new lifestyle come together.

Besides white sand beaches stretching out into bright blue waters, The Goto Archipelago will now also be home to a community of people who have traveled around/come from different corners of the globe who bring with them a more open and diverse set of values.

About the facility

HafH Goto The Pier is located on the unused second floor of SERENDIP HOTEL GOTO. The coliving space consists of 6 private rooms, while the work area has a meeting room available for anyone to use and two small office spaces that be rented out from one month up. The café on the ground floor of SERENDIP HOTEL GOTO is available for use as a coworking space. People on the island are friendly, so on top of getting some work done, use the open café to chat with locals and join in local events! Soak up the laid-back island atmosphere, and experience and learn new things that you just wouldn’t be able to as a visitor!

About SERENDIP HOTEL GOTO

The natural scenery, ultra-fresh seafood, bountiful selection of fresh food, and World Heritage listed historical features of Goto was what lead the Yamaga siblings to pack up and leave Tokyo, move to the island, and renovate an already existing hotel. Now many people come to stay at Serendip Hotel Goto to enjoy the amazing encounters one can have on the island: stunning scenic beauty, delicious food, deep culture and history, and most of all, warm and friendly people. It’s all these positive chance encounters one can have on the island that gave the Yamaga siblings inspiration for their hotel’s name – Serendip(ity).

Of course, HafH Neighbors (members) are able to use this facility as well! For short term stays, you’ll be in Serendip Hotel Goto, and for long-term coliving (1 month and up), you can stay in HafH Goto The Pier. Now, we can accommodate travelers, colivers and coworkers all within the one building!

About Goto City

The Goto Islands are a group of 11 inhabited, and 52 uninhabited, islands located 100km west of Nagasaki City. It’s an incredible place for tourists to come and visit, packed with white sand beaches and dramatic natural beauty, but is largely unknown among foreign tourists. Many of the sites belonging to Japan’s most recent World Heritage listing “Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region” can be found in Goto, telling the story of how local Japanese Christians went underground in an attempt to escape harsh persecution and in order to keep their faith.

As of November 2019, the local population sits at 36, 728 inhabitants. Like most of rural Japan, those numbers continue to fall, however Goto has seen a recent spike in the number of new residents moving to the islands. The local government has been putting a lot of effort into the “Workation” movement which saw 50 people take part in a workation tour last year (2019).
