Experience of the stay
I managed to book a hotel at the last minute before the long weekend. Since there were no child rates for elementary school students, I had to book for three adults, using over 1500 coins. It took some courage for a single mom! Haha. In Asakusa Rokku, tourists and horse racing fans intermingle in a somewhat disorderly manner. I had no particular worries about safety, but this area has always been rather cramped. I was looking forward to the 10th-floor lounge, which I visited after checking in and after an early dinner. It wasn’t crowded at all, making it a convenient lounge to use. The view was just okay, as you could only see Tokyo Skytree. Haha. However, the staff consistently cleans and replenishes snacks, which raised my satisfaction level significantly! The system for getting amenities is that you take them from next to the front desk, and they provided makeup remover and lotion, which was a big help! I'm grateful as such things are unexpectedly uncommon. In the room, there was a pot and mineral water, but no coffee available. (There were various kinds of tea along with the amenities.) The lounge is not open in the morning, so I ended up ordering UberEats. The bed-making and cleanliness level of the room were honestly a bit underwhelming. Especially the back and gaps of the washbasin might bother some people; ugh... The ironing of the linens was also weak… Compared to business hotels, it’s reasonably priced, so I still want to expect a little more. Also, I'm hoping it’s just a stroke of bad luck, but we were mostly on low floors—though I hope it’s just in my head. Don’t reservation sites allow you to change floors, do they? The view was non-existent as we were on the 3rd floor above the front desk, because of the adjacent building. Haha. However!! Often, extra beds are too small, but I was grateful that the sofa bed was almost the same size as a proper bed, which was a huge relief. Usually, I find myself frustrated paying for three people while dealing with extra beds, so this was greatly appreciated.
Experiences during the trip
On the first day, we enjoyed playing at the Sumida Aquarium at Soramachi (Tokyo Skytree) and a kid-friendly indoor facility called Chikyu no Niwa (operated by Aeon Fantasy), along with dining and shopping. Since we often go there, it felt effortless and familiar. The next day, we planned to go to Hanayashiki, which is just a stone's throw away, but it was the middle of the holiday weekend. There were quite a lot of people, so the kids gave up, and we returned home after just walking around and buying souvenirs. We can always come back... What made my daughter the happiest was the chindon-ya we spotted around 5 PM. Their saxophone skills were impressive! We ended up listening to two songs. Additionally, at the hotel we stayed at, there were outdoor promotions for weekend events, and when we went out on the street after 9 PM, we saw performances by women dressed in courtesan and town girl styles, so we were able to thoroughly enjoy Asakusa just on the street in front. Unexpectedly, shops close quite early. It might be better to recognize that there aren't many options after 9 PM. On the plus side, we greatly enjoyed our hotel stay!
