There is a large public bath where you can relax. I have been to the TenSei-en in Hakone, but the large bath there is not as big. The shower room is quite small. The room was simple and easy to spend time in.

In March, during spring break, I traveled with my kids (one in the 5th year and one in the 1st year of elementary school), a total of three of us, using the Shinkansen “Kodama” 🙆‍♀️👦👦 My second son is starting elementary school in April, which means he won't be able to share a bed anymore, so this was a last-minute stay! Since it takes only 15 minutes from Shin-Yokohama to Odawara, we didn't have to take a whole day off work. We could finish work in the afternoon and still enjoy ourselves thoroughly, making it a great deal. We enjoyed the view at the observatory foot bath garden, warmed up in the family bath (Hakone Yumoto Onsen), ate lots of delicious food in the commercial facility where the hotel is located, borrowed favorite books from the library on the premises, and brought them to our room for the ultimate refreshment! Here are the advantages I felt about this hotel: ★ Close to the city center, so no fatigue from traveling. ★ Directly connected to Odawara, so you can move without getting wet even in the rain. ★ No trouble finding food even if you stay without meals. In addition to the commercial facility Minaka where the hotel is located, there are commercial facilities Asty and Raska at Odawara Station, all connected. There are convenience stores and a variety of restaurants. ★ The room I stayed in, called “Tabi-gō,” is located on the 2nd floor of Kinjirō Square lined with restaurants, so when you open the window, you can see the square below, almost like an old post town, with people enjoying food and drinks. It was my first experience at such a concept inn, and I loved it. ★ In addition to a large public bath, there is a family bath. It's properly a hot spring. There’s a component table available. Official information suggests making a reservation at check-in, but when I called about another inquiry in advance, they told me that they accept prior reservations for those like us who can't enter the large public bath together due to children of the opposite sex, which was very helpful. ★ The view from the observatory foot bath garden is amazing. You can see the sea and Odawara Castle nearby. ★ You can borrow up to 10 books from the Kanagawa Prefectural Odawara Library located in the same building, and take them to your room. The kids' space in the library is spacious and comfortable. The opening hours differ depending on the day of the week, but the Friday we stayed, it was open until 9 PM. ★ There’s an automatic door at the front of the “Tabi-gō” area where you take off your shoes, creating a relaxing atmosphere right from the hallway. ★ There is a big game center across from the hotel. This might be a downside for some, but in our case, it's become a tradition to do gacha at our travel destinations, so it was lucky for us. ★ The room wear is comfortable and separates. If you prefer a yukata, you can choose from a variety of paid yukata options at the front desk. *I could not report on the large public bath, as I couldn’t enter it with my male children 🙇‍♀️

My Favorite 'Hatago' Room Where I Can Feel the Atmosphere of a Post Town!

The first time I stayed here with one child, and the second time with three family members. Both times, I stayed in a 'Hatago' room overlooking the Kinjirō Plaza. The 'Hatago' room is super compact at 10㎡, so there's no entrance space, and when you open the door, there's the bed right away. It's quite narrow for one preschooler and two adults, but there is a family bath on the same floor, and opening the window allows you to feel the liveliness of Kinjirō Plaza, making it my personal favorite room. There's also a unique service where you can borrow books from the Odawara City Library located in the adjacent tower building with the room key, which I enjoyed using with my child.

This time, I stayed at the Tenseien Odawara Station Annex. It's easily accessible from the city center, and I wanted to refresh myself by the hot springs and ocean, so I landed in Odawara! The hotel was a small single room, but it had all the necessary amenities. The mattress was an Airweave, and it was very comfortable to sleep on◎ The hot spring is small, but it was empty when I entered right after check-in and in the morning, so I was able to relax enough. What’s more, being close to the station is great. It's directly connected to the station building, so I didn't need to wear an outer coat to go to restaurants and such, making it super convenient!

There is a hotel located at Minaka Odawara, on the way from Odawara Station to Odawara Castle. Since the hotel is in a complex facility, there are souvenir shops, dining, and administrative offices in the same building. Although the elevators can be crowded, there is a guest-only elevator for the floors above the 10th, so you won't have to wait for transportation within the hotel. The front desk is on the 4th floor, and I checked in around 3 PM, but there was a bit of a line. Since I had already paid with HafH, I was directed to check in using the touch panel instead of at the staffed counter. The hot spring on the 10th floor is not very large overall, but it is compactly arranged with an open-air bath and sauna. The room is spacious enough to relax and work or study comfortably at the table, so you can unwind slowly. Since there is only a shower in the room, those who want to take a bath will need to go to the hot spring on the 10th floor.

I invited my mother on a weekend trip. Our destination was Odawara!! Many people might only visit Odawara as a stopover on their trips to Hakone or Atami, rather than as a main destination. A few years ago, a commercial facility directly connected to the station, Minaka Odawara, opened up, creating a very convenient and enjoyable spot♪ From Shinagawa, it only takes a little over an hour on the Tokaido Line, making it a casual trip. Even though it's so close, it offers a atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in a castle town. As this trip also served as a celebration for my mother's 77th birthday, traveling with my parents in their late 70s means that it's important to keep movements easy, so I thought a place like Odawara, which is all consolidated around the station, was the perfect choice for a destination! Before check-in, we first dropped off our luggage to travel light and enjoyed walking around for food. This time, we stayed at a hotel that achieved two awards in the hotel election, Tenseien Annex. While the western-style rooms are in the business hotel tower, there's a Japanese-style ryokan area on the 4th floor of Minaka, and we stayed there to enjoy the feeling of a hot spring trip, with family baths available for private use. The large public bath is in the tower building, complete with an outdoor bath and sauna. Our room was compact yet showcased a modern Japanese style. When I opened the sliding doors, I could see the third floor of Minaka where we had enjoyed the food stalls from outside the window. There are also yukata (summer kimono) available for 100 yen if you want to take some nice pictures! While tea is provided, coffee and water are not, so if you need those, you can get them from Lawson on the first floor of Minaka. The bedding is by Airweave♡ Before dinner, I took a dip in the hot spring, and also stopped by the foot bath on the 14th floor. It was beautifully illuminated. This foot bath is open to non-staying guests as well, so even if you don't stay at this hotel, it could be a nice memory to visit Minaka, enjoy the foot bath with a great view. There are many dining options around Minaka and in front of the station, making it easy to go out for food. Returning to Minaka at night offers a different and wonderful atmosphere. There's a bakery on the 3rd floor, so we bought some bread for breakfast the next morning. The next day, we relaxed over breakfast in our room with bread and coffee after taking a morning bath. I dozed off a bit on the Tokaido Line without getting tired, and the mother-daughter train trip with my mom in her 70s ended joyfully. Since we didn't want a rigid sightseeing experience, Odawara, with its delightful food, hot springs, and souvenirs, was a great choice in retrospect. This hotel seems enjoyable even for solo travelers as well. I would definitely visit again! I hope this information is helpful! (^ ^)

For Those Who Can’t Sleep Without Complete Darkness: Beware of the Tavern!

I visited Odawara as an accompaniment for my daughter's school event. When I stayed here the night before, it became a good conversation starter when everyone asked, "Wait, you stayed here?!" This time, I stayed in a room in the separate building called 'Tavern'. The room is a bit far from the check-in lobby, and you have to go outside to take an elevator to the bath, but there was a private bath available on the tavern floor. I believe it could be comfortable for families if they could use it for an additional fee. Additionally, the sliding doors in the room that resemble shoji were made of plastic, which was reassuring for those with children. However, although I could sleep without concern, light from street lamps entered through the shoji-style door, so for those who can't sleep unless it's completely dark, this is something to consider. I have included a photo before sleeping in the 15th image. (Due to the camera function, it has been captured brighter than it is, but I don't think it is possible to sleep in complete darkness.) Staying in front of Odawara Station is a hotel that will give you various conversation topics, so I urge everyone to experience it at least once.

[Solo Trip] 3 Nights and 4 Days in West Izu: Day 3 at the Hotel I Was Curious About in Odawara

The reason I chose Odawara as the final destination for my West Izu trip was that I was curious about a certain hotel. [Reason for stay] The attraction was its photos, direct connection to the station, underlying commercial facilities, and the hot springs transported from Hakone. [Room] The room was very clean, but there was a separate building, and I had to go outside to access the large bath. The 4th floor was a shoe-free area, creating a somewhat awkward feeling with the commercial area up to the 3rd floor. However, staying in the main building means sharing the elevator with the commercial facilities. Since it is a 14-story building, it can be troublesome during the day to call for the elevator, so the "Yagura Room" might be preferable. [Meals] There are many commercial facilities around, so I had no trouble finding food, with convenience stores in abundance. [Onsen] It has a sauna, large bath, and open-air bath, although there are some issues with the flow between the elevator and the annex. [Strolling around the town] Nearby are Odawara Castle, Odawara Station, and Hayakawa Fishing Port, making it extremely convenient. [Impression] It was an ideal final stop for my trip, but I felt the coin prices were a bit high. If it were 300 coins, I might consider going back again; it felt more like a staycation than a trip.

First, the hot springs! We enjoyed the natural hot springs in Hakone. With an indoor bath, open-air bath, and sauna, we delighted in the thermal experience. After a short rest in our room, we had a wonderful time soaking our feet in the rooftop foot bath while admiring the sunset over the city of Odawara.

It was very convenient as it is directly connected to the station. Since it is located in Minaka Odawara (a commercial facility), you can also enjoy various Odawara gourmet foods. The rooftop garden on the 14th floor has a foot bath, offering a panoramic view of Odawara Castle. I was able to sleep well at night on the Airweave mattress.

It is a very convenient place directly connected to Odawara Station. The room I stayed in, called Hatago, was quite small for the price, with the bed taking up most of the room, leaving little space to open a large suitcase. The ceiling is also lower, which might be good for feeling the charm of an old-fashioned post town. The room has a washbasin and toilet, but no bath. You can use the large public bath by moving to the main building. I recommend this place for those who want to stay in a cheap room with good access to transportation!
