・From Nada station(JR) : Use East-North exit. Cross the road, head for the zoo(northward).1min-wlk and you can see elevated railroad. Walk along it and go past a book store named ""Worlds end garden"". It takes 30sec-walk to Maya! ・From:Oujikouen station(Hankyu line)：Use west exit. Cross the road and go pass between seven-eleven and elevated railroad. It takes 2min walk to Maya! ・Iwaya station(Hankyu line)：You can see seven-eleven on the right. Turn right and enter Nada station(JR). Refer ""From Nada station(JR)"" ・30min from Koube airport, 90min from Kansai airport. ・Take bus or ferry to Koube, San-no-miya.

I stayed at the "Kobe Guest House Banka," which is about a 5-minute walk from JR Nada Station and converted from an old private house. Although it is a bit far from the downtown area of Kobe at Sannomiya, that distance rather adds to the local feeling. The staff at the guest house are very friendly, and most of the guests are travelers from overseas. Everyone relaxes and chats in the shared space on the first floor. We stayed in a twin room on the third floor. The toilet, shower room, and wash basin are shared but kept very clean. You can see the Hankyu Railway running from the rooftop. If you are sensitive to the noise of trains, you can wear the earplugs provided by the accommodation to sleep.

I chose this accommodation because I wanted to stay somewhere that was not in Motomachi or the seaside hotels. It’s about a five-minute walk from Nada Station, and just a three-minute walk to the convenience store. Although the train runs close by, it didn’t bother me. The front area is cute, and there were also travel guides available. The stairs are steep, but the staff will help with carrying luggage. There are three shower rooms; one is for women only, equipped with shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. There was also a hairdryer available. There is a women’s only restroom with a washlet. If you book a private room, you get bath towels included. You can also access the rooftop for a view of the city landscape. I didn’t use it, but there is a shared kitchen where you could prepare simple meals in the lobby. Other than us, there were foreign backpackers, and everyone seemed to be having a great time chatting in English. The place locks up securely, which I think makes it a safe accommodation for women.

The shared space on the 1st floor is cute! It may not be very spacious, but it was a healing space. Pros ☑︎ Close to the station, convenience stores, and public baths Cautions ☑︎ It's close to the train tracks, so you can hear the train noise quite a bit ☑︎ It's close to the station, but there's an uphill from Nada Station.

It is located very close to Nada Station, and you can easily access the Suido-suji shopping street, the kitchen of the town, and sake breweries. The kitchen is equipped with an IH cooking heater, microwave, electric kettle, refrigerator, etc., allowing for self-catering.

This time, I visited the 'Kobe Guesthouse Banya' located in Maya, Kobe with HafH. Accessing from JR Nada Station, it takes about a 5-minute walk uphill to reach there. The room is very simple, and the lighting looks stylish like an outdoor lamp. Next to the bed, there's a small table and storage space, plus earplugs are provided. The walls are very thin, so you can hear conversations from the adjacent and downstairs rooms quite well. Furthermore, there’s a train running right next to the facility, making a lot of noise when it passes by. I am the type that can't sleep with noise, so earplugs are essential. When I open the window in the room, I can clearly see the train running right in front of me. The shared space has a stylish and calming atmosphere. At the counter, you can also order drinks like coffee. It retains a retro feel unique to a renovated old house guesthouse, making it a very nice space to relax in. There is a kitchen and table available, so you can cook your own meals. As there is no refrigerator in the room, if you want to use one, you should use the shared refrigerator here. There is also a space in the back that seems suitable for groups to have fun together. You might get to know each other while having drinks here with other guests. When moving to the guest rooms on the 2nd floor, you'll need to take off your shoes and change into slippers. By the way, the shoe cabinet does not lock, so be careful not to wear someone else's shoes when you leave. On the 1st floor, there is a shared washing machine as well. There is shampoo and body soap in the shower space, but it seems there is no conditioner. While drinking coffee, I had a brief conversation with the staff, and I learned that this facility was originally a town clinic and had been vacant for several years after the elderly doctor retired and closed it. It was renovated for effective use as a guesthouse. As inbound tourism gradually recovers, it seems that the number of foreign guests is slowly increasing. I think many people visiting Kobe for sightseeing stay around the nearby Sannomiya area, but by staying in Nada next door, you can enjoy the retro hidden spots of the Maya area. It's also close to the 'Maya Kanko Hotel,' known as the queen of ruins, so it’s recommended for ruins enthusiasts as well. Why not stay at a homey guesthouse once in a while?
